Biggest conference ever as NHS Alliance sees growing support for GPCC - 29 October 2010
The NHS Alliance is expecting the largest turn out ever for its annual conference - The Cutting Edge - to be held on 18-19 of October at the Bournemouth International Centre. Michael Dixon, Chairman, NHS Alliance, said: “We are delighted with the number of people attending the conference. We already have hundreds of people registered and we expect to hit the 1000 mark. But this is not surprising, given the NHS Alliance’s track record in clinically-led commissioning both in terms of policy making as well as practical implementation.
“Over the past three years, we have worked with people at forefront of clinically-led commissioning, which means we have the expertise no other organisation has in when it comes to the nuts and bolts of making GP Commissioning Consortia work. “Also, whereas there was a lot of scepticism when the new policy was announced, the support to the GPCC has grown considerabily… Ends

No time to lose – responsibility, power and money must be passed now to those ready to become fully-fledged GP Commissioning Consortia - 12 October 2010
The NHS Alliance has today published its formal response to the White Paper ‘Equity and Excellence: Liberating the NHS’. In its response, the NHS Alliance welcomes the move towards a NHS that is clinically commissioning led, emphasising that, if the changes are going ahead, then GP practices and PCTs should start working together immediately to accelerate the pace and implement the changes sooner rather than later. This will not only minimise the risk of valuable NHS staff going elsewhere, but it will also allow those who are ahead of the game to become fully-fledged GP Commissioning Consortia (GPCC). GP commissioning - Clinicians, practice managers and PCTs look for implementation solutions - 01 October 2010
A new survey, published by the NHS Alliance today, shows that GPs, practice managers and PCTs managers support GP commissioning, but are still divided when it comes to details of policy implementation. Many of those surveyed expressed concern that future GP consortia might be swamped with current PCT roles and responsibilities and that current timescales might be over ambitious. The results also reveal that respondents are worried that the system seems to favour provider over commissioner. Full release attached.

Building new mutuals from foundation trusts - 16 August 2010
The time is right for foundation trusts to be freed of the vestiges of state micromanagement and become mutuals, says the NHS Alliance. In a newly published paper, Building new mutuals from the foundation trusts?, the NHS Alliance states that, by devolving power to local people and placing co-operative and mutual values at the heart of the health service, foundation trusts could become more accountable organisations that hold the key to a more sustainable and efficient NHS.
